Your answers stay with you
Last updated: October 25, 2026
The short version:
- Your binder answers are saved only in your own web browser, on your own device. They are never sent to us. We can't see them.
- We never ask for passwords, account numbers, PINs or Social Insurance or Social Security numbers.
- If you buy, our payment company, Stripe, handles your card. We never see your card number.
- We don't sell or share your information with advertisers.
Who we are
Family Binder is made by JOPA Labs. When this page says "we" or "us," it means us. You can reach us anytime at hello@getfamilybinder.com.
Your binder answers
Everything you type into the interview is saved in your web browser's own storage, on the device you're using. It is not sent to our servers or to anyone else. We do not keep a copy.
That means a few things:
- We can't read your answers, and we can't recover them. If you clear your browser's history or site data, or switch to a different computer, your answers won't be there.
- You can make a backup. The "Download a backup of your answers" button saves a small file to your computer. You can use it to pick up on another computer. Keep that file somewhere safe, because anyone who opens it can read your answers.
- Your printed binder and PDF are yours. They're made on your device. Store them the way you would any important paper: a safe, a filing cabinet, or with someone you trust.
Family Binder is a map, not a vault. It asks where things are and who to call, never for the passwords, account numbers or PINs themselves. Please don't type those in.
Your email address
We ask for your email when you start. It's saved in your browser along with your answers. If you buy, it's passed to Stripe so they can send your receipt. We only use it to send your receipt and to help you if something goes wrong with your purchase.
We don't send newsletters or marketing emails right now. If we ever do, we'll ask first, and every email will have an unsubscribe link.
Payments
Payments are handled by Stripe. When you pay, you're on Stripe's secure checkout page, and Stripe collects your name, email, card details and billing postal code. We never see or store your full card number. Stripe shares with us what we need to run the business: your name, email, the amount, and whether the payment went through.
When you email us
If you write to hello@getfamilybinder.com, we'll have your email address and whatever you choose to tell us. We use it only to reply to you. Our email is forwarded through Cloudflare and kept in a Google Gmail account.
What our website services see
Like almost every website, ours relies on a few outside services to work. When you visit, your browser connects to them, and they can see technical details such as your IP address and browser type:
- Netlify hosts the website and keeps standard server logs.
- Google Fonts provides the typefaces.
- jsDelivr and Tailwind provide some of the code that makes the pages look right.
- Cloudflare manages our domain name and email forwarding.
None of these services receive your binder answers.
Cookies and tracking
We don't use advertising cookies or tracking tools on this site today. Stripe's checkout page uses its own cookies to keep payments secure and prevent fraud.
If we later add a tool to measure our ads or visits, we'll update this page first and say what it is.
How long we keep things
- Your answers: we never have them. They stay in your browser until you clear them.
- Purchase records: Stripe keeps them, and we keep them as long as tax law requires (in Canada, generally six years).
- Emails to us: kept until they're no longer needed to help you.
Your rights
You can ask us what information we have about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, except where we must keep purchase records by law. Email hello@getfamilybinder.com and we'll answer within 30 days.
We follow Canadian privacy law. If you're not satisfied with how we handle a privacy concern, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
Children
Family Binder is made for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this page
If we change how we handle information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change is important, we'll say so clearly on the website.
